Benito Navarrete Prieto is professor of Art History at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and has authored various publications, including Murillo y las metáforas de la imagen (2017, 2nd ed. 2018) and Murillo: Persuasion and Aura (2021 Eleanor Tufts Award). His exhibitions include El joven Murillo (together with A. E. Pérez Sánchez; Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, 2009), I segni nel tempo. Dibujos españoles de los Uffizi (Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, 2016), Herrera el Mozo y el Barroco total (Museo Nacional del Prado, 2023) and Identidades compartidas. Pintura española en Portugal (Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, 2024). The French Ministry of Culture has made him a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters for his academic and research career.
