Juan Pimentel, a research scientist at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), has been a visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge and a visiting professor at the EHESS in Paris. As a cultural historian of science, he has explored the relationships between knowledge of nature and social theory, writing and the world of images. His books include Testigos del mundo. Ciencia, literatura y viajes en la Ilustración (2003), The Rhinoceros and the Megatherium (2010/2017), and Fantasmas de la ciencia española (2020). He has curated the exhibitions Cartografías de lo desconocido (2017, con Sandra Sáenz López) and Una vuelta al mundo en la BNE (2020), both at the Biblioteca Nacional de España.
