The heades I sent by his Majesties order were certifiyed to be the right by Diego Velasques the kinges painter a man of great iudgement yet since his Majestie is unsatisfyed in them, I will haue them viewed againe by a person of whose skill I ame very confident, and accordingly his Majestie shall be serued. That head that is taken for Francis the first, was meant for M. Marcellus and is doubtlesse a Roman head. The other yonge head is held here to bee Hanibal before hee past into Italie; but in this there may bee some uncertainty either pro or con, there being soe fewe statues of his in the world. Madrid, July 18/28 1640.
