This beautiful and comprehensive volume examines for the first time the rich history of more than four hundred years of drawing and printmaking in Spain. Published to complement an exhibition at the British Museum, it highlights the Museum’s outstanding collection of Spanish prints and drawings, reproducing many for the first time. Objects from the Museum and from many other institutions are discussed alongside the paintings and frescos to which they relate to reveal the central role of prints and drawings had in the visual culture of Spain.

Mark McDonald, a former Assistant Keeper of Old Master Prints and Spanish Drawings at the British Museum, is now Curator of Drawings and Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. He has published widely and taught on this subject as well as on collecting and Spanish drawings. He is the author of the 2006 Mitchell prizewinning The Print Collection of Ferdinand Columbus (1488–1539): a Renaissance Collector in Seville (2004).
